With the widespread use of dating apps and social media, it’s now easier than ever to meet people on the internet. If you become interested in someone you met online, here are some reminders to help keep you safe:

  • Meeting for the first time. If you decide to meet in person, choose a public setting in the daytime and be sure to tell a friend or family member where you are going.
  • Sending pictures. Remember, once you send a photo, you’re no longer in control of where it goes or who sees it, so make sure that you absolutely trust the person receiving the photo before you press send.
  • Having sex. If you want to be involved sexually, make sure you know and trust their sexual history and use protection for all sexual contact.
