Coming out is a daunting idea to most LGBTQ+ people. And while you are not required to discuss your sexuality or gender with your provider, it’s best to be honest. You might need different preventative care, treatments, or counseling. The more information your doctor has, the better care they can give you.
If you’re under 18, you can ask about your provider’s privacy policies in case you’d like to keep details about your sexuality private from your parents. If you don’t feel completely comfortable coming out to your parents or need additional support, there are many ways you can still receive the support you need. See this page to help you find doctors and services that are LGBTQ+ friendly in the national and local community.
